Dating back to 1933, the annual Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony draws a multitude of visitors to see the chosen tree welcome the holiday season, with tens of thousands of twinkling lights putting on a wonderful show. The lighting is accompanied by star-studded performances and great excitement among the crowd. The tree is set near the Rockefeller Center Skating Rink, where thousands come to test their skills, and is kept at Rockefeller Center through the first week of January.
